I will take this opportunity to reflect on the course content and provide some suggestions. From my perspective, the course was very interactive and offered hands on learning with the help of so many activities. The trip to cadaver lab was very helpful and was the best part of the course, as we got to see human anatomy in real life and learn about it. It was exciting, fun and educational at the same time. In high school, when students are making career choices, this type of trip can help them decide on their career. It helps them clear their confusion about whether they should go in biology field or not. The best way I learn is not just listening or reading, but doing it and making connections to daily life things or situations. Some activities we did, such as the virus cup lab, helped me make those connections and understand how virus can affect the whole population, just because if when one or two people are affected. We also did the mystery murder lab of captain Orichimaru Okasa which was relevant to the Biological/Science profession, such as homicide detective and pathologist etc. My overall learning experiences was exciting as I got to learn a lot and clear some of my confusions or myths about some biology related topics. As a result, my knowledge of this field has increased; there was the previously-held idea that human heart is the size of the fist that was disproved. The course has influenced or shaped my successful learning strategies as I got to learn how I can answer thinking questions by using domino's effect and make flash cards for learning biological terminology. I did follow the learning strategies that were suggested at the beginning of the course because they were helpful in studying for exam and tests. The strategy which helped the most was writing notes and talking to myself in mirror for reviewing. I want to make some suggestions for course improvement. When Miss Tran taught, It was easy to grasp and learn. However, I has some difficulty understanding concepts when the supply teacher and the student teaching groups taught me. I understood the basics in evolution and animal anatomy, but could not go into much dept compared genetics which is more clear to me. So I would suggest that teaching assignment is fun, but if they are given specific topics to teach and not the whole unit then it will not disturb the pattern of learning and all units can be covered in depth. In addition, it would be better to assign the ePortfolio before exam's week so students have more time to prepare and finish the summative before the exam. Thus, they can concentrate on only exams and they don't have to worry about projects. This is a request as I myself did not get enough time to finish this portfolio and it created stress in the time of exam because of the high overload from all the courses. Overall, the course was well taught and I have learnt a lot. Thank you so much for teaching me because after teaching the class, I know how hard it is to teach, especially high school students. It was a wonderful course!
Sincerely,
Seema K
